Call for Entry: Marit Lage theme deck contest!

In Uncategorized on October 15, 2008 at 9:11 am

it’s a nice surprise to see the number of hits we get from people who search for Marit Lage (there, another hit for us). and even better news is that we are the first site that appears when you google search Marit Lage!

in order to further drive traffic to this site, let’s have a little “submit-your-marit-lage-themed-deck” contest! the best 3 decks we choose to feature on this blog wins…2 packets of shards of alara boosters (or shopping vouchers from a gaming site) yes yes, i know that’s cheap but considering that we are doing it in the name of fun (without any advertisers and/or sponsors), its the best we can do.

some ground rules to keep the contest fun (and friendly):

  1. all decks have to be MARIT LAGE-themed, meaning, the whole deck has to revolve around her.
  2. it does not have to be a killer deck, we are looking for fun and flavour
  3. extra points for being creative/out of the box and affordable
  4. deadline would be a week from now – midnight of wednesday, 22nd of august
  5. you can either post your entry as a comment, or send it to themagicflunkies @ gmail.com

that’s about as many rules as i can come up with. hopefully this contest idea kicks off and we can do it regularly! who can say no to free boosters anyway, right? looking forward to see what you guys can come up with!

Stephen’s Ass got Double-66-ed!

In Uncategorized on August 17, 2007 at 7:33 am

I can’t miss a scandal. In fact, i think i live for it.Anime fans in Singapore are uniting for a cause. Local anime distributor – Odex – is now suing ‘illegal downloaders’ who are as young as 9 years old. The mastermind behind this, Stephen Sing, is apparently now on a crusade around Singapore, taking ISP into court and bullying them into revealing downloader’s IP addresses. He would issue letters to these downloaders and offer an ‘out of court’ settlement – by paying a fine of S$1000-S$5000 – for his apparent losses and damage. And that’s not enough. He has to go online and gloat about it.The screenshot below, taken from http://asia.cnet.com,  he (xysing) announced that he is too busy ’sueing’ (apparently, he needs to go for spelling lessons too) people. I can’t help but feel that he’s enjoying it.In a news article in Singapore (Newpaper), he was quoted to be very stressed about the pressure and hatred he is getting. Has he thought about the 9 years old children and how traumatised they would be? He could have taken better actions in this, like issuing warning letters before issuing fines. But being the typical businessman, he goes straight for the throat. And now the public backlash – boycott of Odex’s products and local anime fans are pooling money to counter-sue him – some are even considering serious actions like burning down his house. Here’s his mugshot, do give him a holler if you ever see him.picture.jpgJar

Wii Are The World

In Uncategorized on May 24, 2007 at 9:22 am

I’ve completed my Wii obligation.

Some Singaporeans have been complaining about the lack of supply of Wii here as well as the ‘exorbitant’ price of a set. While US is selling a set at S$560 (US$369.99) Singapore has been selling a ‘bundled’ set at $649 (US$420?). It seems that the bundled set has been forced upon by us by our cutthroat games distributor (Maxsoft).

I caved in to peer pressure and got myself a set of Wii. And i must say, that $700 odd i paid is money well spent. Never have my body ached from playing console, and here i was, spent and aching after playing 3 sets of Wii Tennis and Wii Boxing.

I enjoy playing with Godfather too. IMHO, it’s the best game so far for Wii. The action, the blood, the violent and the language. Plus the added RPG character development. It’s one solid title for Wii.

The Magic Flunkies’ What If!! Harry Potter part 1

In What if! on April 24, 2007 at 6:29 am

In this first segment (and The Magic Flunkies first update of the year) of The Magic Flunkies’ What If, we imagine how a MMORPG would be like in the world of magic and wizardy.

Background Story

The game takes place way after Book 7. The World of Witchcraft and Wizardry is in turmoils again. The Death Eaters have risen in power in a couple of years and they managed to secure a huge following who believes in superiority of the pure-bloods.

Reports of muggles missing appear on the headlines everyday, paranoid grew among the wizardry world and everyone starts to wonder who’s the traitor among them.

As the Order of the Phoenix prepare themselves for war, the Death Eaters secretly found a way to rise Voldemort back from the grave again…

Character Customization

The character customization’s interface would be as user-friendly as The Sim2. While you can only be human in this game, there are a variety of customization to choose from.

Players start the game in Hogwarts, regardless of whether they choose to be in the Order of the Phoenix or the Death Eaters. PvP action starts only when you’re level 10.

All characters start off as a level 1 wizard/witch with only basic cantrips spells like lumos and wingardium leviosa. And they begin their adventure by completing basic tasks for the teachers. Basic tasks can be in form of running errands (ie, fetch me 10 feathers!) or can be in form of getting rid of vermins (ie, kill 10 rats in the basement). And they would gain experience points from these tasks to level up.

Leveling up in HP Online is similar to WoW. You got to find your teacher (trainer) and learn new spells.

World of Warcraft CCG

WoW CCG booster pack

WoW CCG starter deck

Havent read the Inquest for the details of the game, but here are some information that i managed to get online.

The game is most definitely geared towards a single-character PvP type experience, at least for 1 vs 1 games. Each deck will be focused around a single character card, each on having it’s own race/class/talent spec which will affect what kinds of cards that player will be able to use. Initially there will be 16 different character cards, 8 for Alliance and 8 for Horde. Each faction will get one character card for each class in the initial base set, but more will become available as more sets are released.

In addition to the character cards, there will be ally and pet cards that you can use to help defeat your opponent. Ally cards are like party members, and they’ll be useful for supplimenting your main character. For example, if you’re playing a mage, using a warrior to keep enemies off of your fragile, gooey body could be a great strategy. Pet cards will allow hunters to, well… have a pet. Just like in the online game, the pet will help absorb some of the damage the hunter would otherwise have to deal with, as well as help dish out some extra DPS.

Leveling and experience has been left out, as the TCG characters are assumed to be level 60 already. This is a good thing; leveling in a card game would be both awckward and boring. Instead, you get to focus on upgrading your characters equipment with blue and purple gear.

Sounds exciting, i hope it will be followed up with new expansion instead of just dying out like Harry Potter CCG. I do believe that I have a foil Golden Snitch somewhere at home….

Magic the Gathering Players and Chicks out in the streets.

In Uncategorized on July 12, 2006 at 6:18 pm

I’ve always wanted to have a girlfriend who plays magic. Well I guess that’s the dream of any planeswalker out there, but there’s a strong sense of misjudgment from the public towards Magic players. How many times have i hidden my packs when I opening them with excitment but to conceal the fact that I am into magic the gathering when I’m by passing girls out in the public. To hell with the misjudgment, I stand upon the very game that have lasted for the past 11 years and scream out to the world: Magic Players can also be chick magnets!!!! Just last week when I was feeling lucky and digging my wallet for a couple of bucks for a few packs, which I luckily found a breeding pool, I actually hid my packs when I was by passing this cute looking girl. At the back of my mind I was thinking what’s the deal with this? I can be equally attractive to a girl while holding on to a few magic cards. But well, in singapore the female magic players are a miserable few and most of them are pretty hideous, much like the brothers from Radkos. But I did something which I’ve not done in like ever…….. I actually taught my girlfriend how to play magic. After much pleading and begging, she finally took her place and start shuffling a old deck of mine.

Round 1

My girlfriend drew 7 cards and lay a forrest, which she taps it to cast a forced spike, targetting nothing…….. Start all over again.

Round 2

She , who finally manage to understand the mana symbols and how to cast spells, laid a island in play. I laid a swamp and cast duress on her. Then she refused to discard a card and ask why. After explaining to her for the next 10 minutes, she finally discard a rootwalla into her graveyard and when I explain to her that she can actually put the creature in play, she ask why should she listen to me, and claim that she doesn’t need a creature to win the game. After a few lands and much explaination, she refuse to take the 8 loss of life from my corrupt and decided to cast her own upheaval by messing all the cards in play with both her hands.

Round 3

My imaginary session with my gf ended as of my dream of playing magic with my girl. As I was picking the cards, I started to think how pathetic I was to have to imagine myself playing magic with nothing but air. Am I neurotic?
