Ramblings

In mtg on July 29, 2006 at 8:47 pm

I thought of heading to bed. But a thought strike me after a phone conversation with Jar. Dun be mistaken, we’re not a couple and this is not a gay website. We’re lesbians, we love gals…. Well to be exact, I love girls and he love the he-girls…. It’s a complicated situation, and that’s why we dwell ourselves in the world of dominaria or Ravnica. Where Goblins and human can have relationships, see how Squee love to hang out with Sisay under the deck (you know what I mean), and how do you think the zombie goblins, and rat ninjas appear? Magic Characters, they have Orgy,… I mean “Mana” parties…. where all creature types just gather together and have fun…. It might not be their watches they dropped in a bowl, maybe their toes, maybe a scale or two, or even a small portion of their Brain.  However the point is, In that world… it doesn’t matter what you do. Nobody gives a shit. It’s either you’re winning the game or you end up in the graveyard…. and that’s how it is…. you go out there into combat tricks, you get busted…. No one is gonna insult or aggrevate your damaged self esteem, no one! But in reality, when you’re condemn as a homo sapien…. whichever choice you make, you need to consider other’s preception…. ya ya, the saying goes about never let other’s perception becomes your reality? But your reality is made of  other people’s perception and that is a fact for most human being live in the world of earth. So if anyone were to ask me what creature type and wat abilities would you like to have…. I would stand proudly and say:

I want to be a 1/1 human Player with 0:Phasing, indestructable, and protection from everything.

Fuck the World!……. erm sometimes I guess…….

random update #1

In mtg on July 28, 2006 at 10:05 pm

mel and i are gonna have a mini magic match, best of 3 rounds. the loser buys the winner either WoW tcg starter, Horror Clix starter or Dreamscape starter. and a meal on top of it.

mel’s probably gonna play a burn deck, im not too sure what i am playing yet. but im thinking of using the perilious research + hatching plan combo to draw 5 cards, with maro in play. a green/blue maro beatdown deck.

a rough idea

4 surveiling sprite
3 coiling oracle
4 birds of paradise
3 maro
4 hatching plan
4 perilious research
2 sky swallower
3 mana leak
3 remand
3 muddle the mixture
3 into the north

im considering adding plaxmanta as well, or maybe flight of fancy. im so annoyed.

Horror Clix

In Horror Clix on July 23, 2006 at 10:38 pm

Horror Clix will be out in stores in less than 37 days.

What can players expect from this set of miniatures?

There’s a poorly scanned pictures of the entire set here

Sneaking around the official WizKids Forum, i managed to get a rough idea of how the game is being played. And im pretty amazed at some of the minis, i mean, Rapustin, Headless Horseman, Chainsaw and the Reaper?! And if you’re planning on a d20 game of Resident Evil, there are additional ‘extras’ like Zombie Lawyer and Shambling Zombie to add to the atmosphere.

Im getting a brick (12 boosters) of Horror Clix because i could get an exclusive Jack the Ripper free!

So many things to buy, so little money to spend…

WoW TCG

In WoW on July 21, 2006 at 9:36 pm

Upperdeck Entertainment revealed the card back of the upcoming WoW TCG which looks pretty promising i think.

Here are somemore news i found on their official website
-Amazing original art from today’s top creators gives you a fresh look at the World of Warcraft universe.
-Find Loot cards which unlock cosmetic upgrades for your online World of Warcraft character.
-Gather resource cards and redeem them online to unlock additional upgrades or other Warcraft rewards.
-Engage in frantic one-on-one battles, or team up for the most intense multi-player action you can find in a TCG.
-Unite to conquer legendary foes, like the great dragon Onyxia! (limited-edition Raid Decks sold separately).

Play your games online?

In AD&D, Writings on July 16, 2006 at 10:05 pm

This might seem shocking to some of you, but i have a confession to make…im bored of World of Warcraft, and that’s probably because i suck at it. Im a level 44 mage without a mount because i don’t have enough gold. I quest solo most of the time because forming a solid party takes up alot of time. just like today, i spent 30 mins waiting for a priest at zul’farrak and when the priest got here and we were 10 minutes into the instance, our druid had to go because ‘this is not working…’. and another hunter decided to quit as well, so it was just me, the priest and a warrior.

and don’t get me started on being ganked constantly by hordes. are they so ugly that they must kill all the pretty alliances to validate themselves?

that’s why im turning my attentions to online virtual tabletop gaming. kinda like playing good ‘o times paper and pen rpg like ad&d but online. how’s it possible? well, with the power of the internet (and alot of scripting), something like this and this is created.

i havent got a clue how to work both of them, but here’s a rough idea. i create a game using the client and whoever’s interested could connect to my ip address with the client. kinda like multiplayer diablo or such. and the game master and the players could play out a custom game of rpg at the comfort of their homes, naked. im not surprised if there’s a nerd out there who jerks off to his two-handed bastard sword +3.

and speaking of ad&d, i just saw the most amazing thing in the WoTC forum.

Presenting the Final Fantasy 3.5E for D20. this one is solely fans’ effort. they converted the items, monsters, spells and feats to d20 and it’s not easy. they even translated everything into .pdf format for download.

you can visit the official Final Fantasy rules conversion page here.

World of Warcraft CCG

WoW CCG booster pack

WoW CCG starter deck

Havent read the Inquest for the details of the game, but here are some information that i managed to get online.

The game is most definitely geared towards a single-character PvP type experience, at least for 1 vs 1 games. Each deck will be focused around a single character card, each on having it’s own race/class/talent spec which will affect what kinds of cards that player will be able to use. Initially there will be 16 different character cards, 8 for Alliance and 8 for Horde. Each faction will get one character card for each class in the initial base set, but more will become available as more sets are released.

In addition to the character cards, there will be ally and pet cards that you can use to help defeat your opponent. Ally cards are like party members, and they’ll be useful for supplimenting your main character. For example, if you’re playing a mage, using a warrior to keep enemies off of your fragile, gooey body could be a great strategy. Pet cards will allow hunters to, well… have a pet. Just like in the online game, the pet will help absorb some of the damage the hunter would otherwise have to deal with, as well as help dish out some extra DPS.

Leveling and experience has been left out, as the TCG characters are assumed to be level 60 already. This is a good thing; leveling in a card game would be both awckward and boring. Instead, you get to focus on upgrading your characters equipment with blue and purple gear.

Sounds exciting, i hope it will be followed up with new expansion instead of just dying out like Harry Potter CCG. I do believe that I have a foil Golden Snitch somewhere at home….

Why Coldsnap is a flop….(or my experience at the prerelease)

In Writings, mtg on July 13, 2006 at 3:24 pm

Judging from the forum, Coldsnap seemed to be a flop not only here in Singapore, but around the way. Some blamed it on the summer vacation, some blamed it on the power of the set and some are just not interested in Coldsnap. But Mel and I went anyhow because we started playing Magic at the time around Ice Age was realised (about 10 years ago), and we had strong attachment for Ice Age and its snow-covered cards.

When WoTC promised to expand the snow-covered flavour, we were thrilled and we even started searching through our old cards for the snow-covered lands. So like happy tail-wagging puppies, Mel and I went for the prerelease event. It was pretty dismal when the room was half-filled (or half-emptied), and when we opened the packs, snow-covered lands were included in the 15 cards boosters and that meant that we couldn’t get any more snow-covered lands to form our decks.

Which was increasingly frustrating because you could form a green/red deck but you only get snow-covered islands. That would have sucked.

So anyway, i opened a ophran viper but i had to pass it away. My heart aches a little, but when i received my cards, i was fucking excited. I had Lightning Serpent, Rimewind Dragon as well as Panglacial Wurm. I knew instantly that i MUST play red and green.

I can’t remember exactly what cards i have got in my deck, but here’s a rough idea.

3 Boreal Druid
2 Surging Might
2 Skeld
3 Into the North
3 Frostweb Spider
2 Ohran Yeti
1 Martyr of Ashes
1 Surging Flame
1 Thermopod
2 Goblin Rimerunner
1 Rite of Flame
1 Rimewind Dragon
1 Lightning Serpent
1 Panglacial Wurm
2 Snow-covered Forest
1 Snow-covered Mountain
1 Mouth of Ronom

It was a good deck. Mouth of Ronom provides direct creature damage when my opponents least suspected. Lightning Serpent saves my ass so many times, especially when my opponents thought they almost have the game. In short, i won 3 out of 4 matches. I lost to the deck with 3 fucking Sound of the Call.

Oh well, you can’t have everything. Being a Magic Flunky, i didn’t expect to get 3 wins at all. Maybe i was lucky, or maybe i got really good cards for the deck. I hope i am just as lucky when Time Spiral comes around.

After the satisfactory game, i walked around whoring my Lightning Serpent and Rimewind Dragon. The prices were pretty low, one idiot offered $3 for the Rimewind Dragon. What…The…Fuck…So i decided to keep the cards and try to form a deck when Coldsnap is out in stores.

Let’s wait for Mel’s Coldsnap Prerelease experiences, can’t wait to hear how he lost (almost) all the games.

Until then, let’s all revere in the presence of Lightning Serpent.

Marit Lage is back!

In mtg on July 13, 2006 at 7:47 am

The Wrath of Marit Lage

I never knew what Marit Lage is, or how she looks like. I imagined her to be a scornful bitch goddess like Lloth in Forgotten Realms. Hateful, powerful and basically how a woman behaves when she’s been dumped.

The Curse of Marit Lage

She’s definitely a pissed off chick.

And when Coldsnap’s spoiler was out and the preview of Dark Depths was shown…

She was described as an epic sorcerer frozen in a glacier’s heart. Her thundering steps havent been felt on Terisiare since she was locked in the glacier, but you already know that she waits, not dead, in those Dark Depths.

Little do we know that Marit Lage looks just like a dignified sotong.

Or rather, something that you might expect from the Pirates series.

Magic the Gathering Players and Chicks out in the streets.

In Uncategorized on July 12, 2006 at 6:18 pm

I’ve always wanted to have a girlfriend who plays magic. Well I guess that’s the dream of any planeswalker out there, but there’s a strong sense of misjudgment from the public towards Magic players. How many times have i hidden my packs when I opening them with excitment but to conceal the fact that I am into magic the gathering when I’m by passing girls out in the public. To hell with the misjudgment, I stand upon the very game that have lasted for the past 11 years and scream out to the world: Magic Players can also be chick magnets!!!! Just last week when I was feeling lucky and digging my wallet for a couple of bucks for a few packs, which I luckily found a breeding pool, I actually hid my packs when I was by passing this cute looking girl. At the back of my mind I was thinking what’s the deal with this? I can be equally attractive to a girl while holding on to a few magic cards. But well, in singapore the female magic players are a miserable few and most of them are pretty hideous, much like the brothers from Radkos. But I did something which I’ve not done in like ever…….. I actually taught my girlfriend how to play magic. After much pleading and begging, she finally took her place and start shuffling a old deck of mine.

Round 1

My girlfriend drew 7 cards and lay a forrest, which she taps it to cast a forced spike, targetting nothing…….. Start all over again.

Round 2

She , who finally manage to understand the mana symbols and how to cast spells, laid a island in play. I laid a swamp and cast duress on her. Then she refused to discard a card and ask why. After explaining to her for the next 10 minutes, she finally discard a rootwalla into her graveyard and when I explain to her that she can actually put the creature in play, she ask why should she listen to me, and claim that she doesn’t need a creature to win the game. After a few lands and much explaination, she refuse to take the 8 loss of life from my corrupt and decided to cast her own upheaval by messing all the cards in play with both her hands.

Round 3

My imaginary session with my gf ended as of my dream of playing magic with my girl. As I was picking the cards, I started to think how pathetic I was to have to imagine myself playing magic with nothing but air. Am I neurotic?

War of the Dragon Queen

In AD&D on July 12, 2006 at 9:52 am

WoTC just released the entire picture gallery of the War of the Dragon Queen set.

im extremely impressed with this Huge Fire Elemental. Apparently WoTC realised that they could use semi-transparent plastic for their miniatures, and this set is filled of miniatures with semi-transparent parts.

The Huge Fiendish Spider was exactly the one i imagined it to be when i read the Underdark series.

Check out the rest of the miniatures here.

Coldsnap Theme Decks

In mtg on July 11, 2006 at 10:07 am

WoTC just released the deck list for Coldsnap’s theme decks. Alliances and Ice Age cards will be included with the new card format. Sadly though, Force of Will will not be printed. But Swords to Plowshares, Disenchant, Dark Ritual will be reprinted.

Deck list could be found here.

If i only have S$17 with me right now (cos that’s how much a deck costs in Singapore), i would most probably get Snowscape. It has most of the cards that i want to get – Rimewind Taskmaster, Rimewind Cyromancer, Heidar, Rimewind Master. And i could probably fit in 4 Glimpse to make a fully playable deck that doesn’t suck. Counting down 11 days to the release of Coldsnap!

We Eat Dorks For Breakfast

In Writings on July 10, 2006 at 9:11 am

Flunking in almost everything, 2 fantasy gaming junkies, with a desire to escape from the reality turn to their only strength – Magic: The Gathering. But to no avail, they still carry with them, a sense of non-performance. This is why magicflunkies.wordpress.com is born. To do what REAL heroes do in their darkest time of the journey: Blame others, complain, follow others, give excuses and to bitch about almost everthing.

And don’t be mistaken. We’re not specs-wearing idiots, book-thumping nerds, or pimpled dorks. We are cool people who have a real job and a real life.

This blog is just our unapologetic reason for our existence.
